This exceptionally fine and very handsome antique Steiff teddy bear is a bit of a mystery. He has a lot of the Petsy characteristics, including the rare dual mohair colour, the pale pink nose/mouth and claws stitching (some of this is over stitched to his nose but the original is visible) and of course he is very similar to a selection of 1920's Steiff teddy bears seen in the Sue Pearson book. I have included a page from this for reference. However, my boy does not have the famous Petsy centre seam and although he has piercing blue glas eyes which have been in him for a long time, I cannot 100% guarantee that they are original.

I did some research which suggests that some Petsy designs did not make it into production and some dual plush bears from the range may have been given to staff, so this bear might be one of these very rare examples. My gorgeous Steiff teddy is mostly soft filled with just a bit of wood-wool covering a massive growler in his tummy, unfortunately now inoperative. He stands about 19 or 47 cm and has the most wonderful shape of the earlier Steiff teddy bears - which I have tried to show in my images, so please do look at all of them.
