Antique Vintage The Good Fairy Statue Sculpture Bronze Good Luck Old Art RARE! This is a beautiful and rare antique statue of The Good Fairy in very good condition. It belonged to my grandfather. According to what I could find in my research: The piece was designed by Josephine Kern in 1916 at the request of Jessie McCutcheon Raleigh who then had it made and marketed. Raleigh explained, It symbolized friendliness, brotherhood and good luck. A good fairy that shall be grace and innocence and sunshine that shall smile back in to the sad hearts of the old world that shall spur people on to their best and in that way bring them good luck. Perhaps the most endearing aspect of the design is that the fairy looks to be a boy from one side, and a girl from the other. Overall, a figure that projects welcome, inclusion, joy. Bronze-clad, a manufacturing process by which a skin of bronze was deposited on a plaster form through electro-plating. A handful of companies used this method in the early 1900s to make decorative household objects that had the look, feel, and heft of solid bronze yet were affordable by the middle class. No maker's mark but it is known the smaller version (bookends) carried the labels of Armor Bronze. Armor operated in NYC at least as early as the 19-teens. No breaks in the cladding. Importantly, the arms are neither cracked nor bent, as has happened on so many of the bookends.

Paint is original and largely intact. She stands on top of the world which is a turquoise color and matches the turquoise base which is trimmed in gold color.

The base also depicts a scroll and 3 books (one red, one beige & one blue). 8 inches tall; the base is 4 inches X 2 inches. This item is in the category "Art\Art Sculptures". The seller is "debscollectablesnc" and is located in this country: US. This item can be shipped to United States.
