This is a gilt mounted kingwood and tulipwood with rectangular leather-lined top whitin a veneered and gilt bronze border, above 3 drawers on each side set in serpentine shaped frieze on cabriole legs, the whole mounted with rocaille, leaf and flower cast mounts. The bureau plat with scalloped top with later brown leather inset writing surface above three frieze drawers, the reverse with false drawers, the sides centered by floral and foliate mounts, raised on cabriole legs mounted with gilt bronze mask form espagnolettes leading to gilt bronze foliate sabots:the Biblitheque with shaped and coved top over a central glazed door flanked by subsidiary glazed doors enclosing sheleves, raised on gilt bronze animal paws. All the pieces including the locks are signed and had been made by him and in his first workshop that he opened in 1881 located at the 170th of Rue du Faubourg Saint- Antoin in Paris. The stamp inside the center lock that is a little rub-off reads:DUVIVIER-Paris-170(Zero as dot)-17 FG-ST ANTOINE - PARIS.
Under the 2 smaller drawers lock the stamps reads:DUVIVIER PARIS 7. This desk comes with 3. Drawers on one side and 3 false drawers on the front side with key and original locks. The piece comes with gorgeous leather top that we believe is added later date for more protection with gold linings. This Bureau Plat is in excellent condition and very well kept. This desk is one the first furniture pieces that was made as soon he opened his workshop in 1881 in this new location.The top measures about:52 1/2" by 32 1/2" and the height is:30 3/4.
