Rare Antique Or Vintage Triqui Sash Belt Faja San Martin Itunyoso Oaxaca, Mexico
Beautiful and rare Triqui sash from Oaxaca, Mexico. I believe it is from the village of San Martin Itunyoso. From an estate in New Mexico. Supposedly collected in the 1930's.
It was probably new or not very old at the time. Woven on a back strap loom. One end is a selvage and the other end is turned under and sewn down. Very fine cotton base with weft stripes of wool in red, orange, green and pink. One short area in the middle has red stripes of a brighter orange red.
There is a near identical sash displayed in the Museo Textil de Oaxaca. Seethe last photo for this sash in the museum, which is not included in this listing. It is only shown for reference.
