This is a wonderful antique Viscoloid male jointed baby boy doll made of hard celluloid in the United States around 1920, though the exact date may be a couple decades either way. This charming, dimpled, boy baby doll has painted blonde straight hair, blue eyes, and a Caucasian complexion. It measures approximately 11 inches in length and the arms and legs are attached by interior elastic cords, which have amazing strength for the age, but could begin to go the way of all earthly elastic at any moment.
The brand is Viscoloid, a precursor to DuPont, and it is a delightful original piece. The doll is unclothed, and weighs 3.175 ounces. The condition is good, consistent with gentle play a long time ago.
There are surface scratches and some age-related grime, and what looks like a a child's scratches on the abdomen, possibly the letters "T" and I. There is a small separation along the torso seam along the baby's left abdominal flank, pictured. From a clean, smoke-free, unscented environment, with no odd smells of any kind.
We are not doll experts but this one is too wonderful to keep in the box in the closet when it belongs in your collection.
