The watch was made in the 1970's and is large for the period at 43mm in diameter in a stainless steel case with a screwdown glass caseback, through which the movement is visible an extremely rare variation on this model. The watch has a uni-directional minutes bezel and a screw down crown in a nod to the style of a diver. This example has the much more favoured black dial with tritium lume Arabic numerals at the hours and a black chapter ring indicating the minutes. The dial has a super clean matt black background with three beautiful sub registers with grooved surfacing for a classy way to define them against the dial. All the numerals are in perfect aged condition with no loss of lume.
The hands are highlighted by a paddle-arrow tipped central chronograph hand and arrowed main hour/minutes hands that appear to have been expertly relumed at some point. The finish is impeccable but you can see the difference in tone/colour between the hour and minute hands and the numerals. The dial has a boxed date window between the 4 and 5 position. The movement is the revered Valjoux 7740 with three sub registers at the 3, 6 and 9 position, giving a 12-hour register, running seconds at the 6 position and the 30-minute register for the chronograph at the 3 position. The watch is on a lovely chunky 22mm leather black strap with cream contrast stitching. This watch is in excellent condition and is an absolute beauty. The watch was just serviced by my London based watchmaker and is therefore in very good running condition, keeping accurate time.
