LARGE RARE GEORGE FULMER 8x10 Estate Collection Photo. This photo shows Georges more risqué photography. George Fulmer was a professional photographer at home as well as an enlisted photographer in WWII.
George documented several thousands of war photos, most of which were tragically destroyed in his later years. This photo for sale was one that was inside the home well preserved.
Upon initially entering the estate, thousands of WWII photos/negatives were found outside of his home under his back porch in the Florida weather. Still to this day, we are unsure as to why they were found where they were. All of George's favorite and best works like the photo shown here, was found in the home well preserved in a cool cellar type setting. There is currently only 1 known original that is this photo here currently owned by the estate.
The photo is 8x10, I have placed a quarter in the photo for size reference. This piece does show more wear than most of the others. The silver is starting to crack and craze and shows itself more in the light if you try to see it. The paper is softer an shows wear around the edges but also adds great character. This is still a wonderful piece and would look great in a frame at a beach or lake house.
Considering its size and age it is still in great condition. Please see my other auctions as I will be listing a lot from this estate over the next couple of months. This is one of the largest private vintage photographer estates in the state of Florida. George Fulmer resided in Clearwater for over 70 years in his home and store on Ft Harrison Ave. Serving not only as a war photographer during the war, but as the county photographer, Phillies baseball team photographer (1950s), local aerial photographer, and serving the locals with many other photography services throughout his lifetime.
This is just the very beginning of the estate as there will be many different categories to come. A little about the George Fulmer Estate. What we found inside took 35 days to extract from the property while demolition had to be delayed due to what we found. Eight years, thousands of dollars in climate control storage units, two evacuation for hurricanes, a lockdown, and hundreds of hours of our time later, We are now ready to present to you the Fulmer collection.
We could not bear to see this history destroyed. We have carefully sorted the majority of what we estimate to be around 100,000 photos, negatives, slides, and even film That was sadly left behind. We tried and tried to even get the historical society to take interest, but nobody wanted to deal with what was there. We made a promise to George while he was still alive to popularize the estate and give him the notoriety that he deserved for his life's work which had been sadly left behind for the landfill. George Fulmer personally signed over the copyrights to his photographs and negatives that were in the building before his death.
If at some point someone like Christie's wishes to get involved we may do so. Over the next few weeks we hope you will start to comprehend the magnitude of the estate and the importance of what we have managed to save and preserve through the last decade. The space it takes to house the current collection is a full sized bedroom packed up and then some. We are starting with the nudes mainly because we knew they would get a lot of attention.
There are only a few hundred nudes and these represent the smallest and One of the more rare categories of photos that we will be offering you for sale. Categories will include, Phillies, bombers, Clearwater high school, jaycees, Red Cross, police and fire departments. New construction, important people, bands, major events and so much more. These photos are just some of what is to come in the following weeks and months. The Nudes are being listed first as they are just a small part of this massive estate. There is an Estimated 100,000 photos in the estate and approximately 300 to 400 of them are nudes. There is only a handful of 8x10 nudes such as this and are considered rare for his work.
