Rare men's antique vintage 1910s-1920s SPALDING khaki padded BASKETBALL SHORTS
PLEASE NOTE THESE SHORTS ARE KHAKI, NOT QUITE THE COLOUR SHOWN. These are a very early pair of SPALDING quilted cotton basketball shorts that date to approx. Although they appear greyish in certain parts of my photos, they are in fact a constant shade of rich KHAKI throughout (this is the fault of my mobile which doesn't seem to like khaki). The shorts are in great condition for their age, but do have the odd flaw as you'd expect for shorts around 100 years old. There are a few odd snags of the cotton. The legs appear to have been restitched in places with brown cotton. NB: There are also signs of blue cotton but this was used to stitch on a blue ribbon strip that has since been removed and could be unpicked if you choose.
There are also a few isolated spots of rust as pictured in 4 or 5 photos. The top of the waist band has a tear at the very back.
The cream waist button and all three cream buttons of the fly are intact. Padded inside on both sides. The drop from waist band to bottom of the legs is approx. Maker's label reads A. There is no size stated, but the waist measures 14 across, so they will be approx.
The shorts have been recently hand washed, so are clean and have no unpleasant smells. These are a wonderful collector's piece in lovely overall quality that have been preserved remarkably well. Altogether, a very collectible pair of shorts that is perfect for sports & fitness venues, theme pubs, sports museums or football fans' private collections.They were made in an age when shorts were made a lot tighter and sizings didn't match today's, so if you intend wearing them yourself, please note I cannot take them back if they do not fit. If you are combining bulky items please ask in advance as sometimes two dispatches may be needed to meet post office size requirements. All photos, books, CDs, DVDs etc.
