RARE Museum Quality 1820s Tambour Lace Dress With Oversleeves Regency Antique

A museum quality lace dress dating to the 1820s, possibly a wedding dress, this is a sensational, rare piece in excellent condition. Three pieces - the main dress and two over sleeves, in beautiful tambour lace - machine net hand embroidered with bands of stylised, naive flowers and foliage. The dress is high waisted, with a wide, rounded square neck trimmed with silk piping and a tiny frill in another lace. The dress fastens at the back with silk ties at the neck and waist, the top tie forming a drawstring around the neck for the images i've carefully pinned the dress rather than putting stress on the ties, this means the back has overlapped where originally it would gather. I think the drawstring would still work but i didn't want to risk it!

The bodice is gathered in to the waistband, which is made with multiple layers of the net. The narrow skirt falls in a graceful A line, flat in the front, pleated for fullness at the back. The pattern of the lace forms vertical floral bands, with large motifs around the bottom and two scalloped single lines of stitch. The hem is scalloped with more floral embroidery.

Very beautiful sleeves - short puffs, with the embroidery and applied silk piping in wavy lines, with silk binding at the cuffs. With the dress are it's two original gigot oversleeves - large shoulders tapering to narrow cuffs, embroidered throughout, with lovely turn back cuffs cut to triangular points, in silk with a lace edging. The cuffs fasten with hooks.

At the top the armholes have silk binding. The fabric has slightly discoloured with age (the images on the stand are the most accurate) and there are a few feint, small marks. One more pronounced mark on the side of the bodice, measuring about 3cm.

A few very small holes, and a larger hole in the waistband measuring 1.5cm. Approx measurements - bust 30.5 waist 24 shoulder 14. I do not give partial discounts.
