This Heuer Solunar is an extremely rare watch - especially in this near mint condition. A grail watch for many and you will not find another as good as this. The watch has just had a full service with my watchmaker (London based) and comes with a full one year guarantee from him.
This is a truly remarkable watch in every sense. It is noticed and asked about every time I wear it. In the 1970's when they were made the size was considered unwearably large, but now, although the massive 45mm diameter of this watch means it's large even by modern standards, it just means it more than holds its own with modern watches. It's large scale makes it immediately noticed. The watch was made as a tool for fishermen and others working on the sea. The double bezels consist of a rotating inner 7 day wheel and a large satin finished external silver and black steel bezel carrying tide markings. The double bezels are used to record a week's tide times.Generally regarded as one of Heuer's most intriguing releases in its history, the Heuer Solunar is an automatic tide watch which incorporates vibrant design features which stand out from most Heuer models. Upon its addition to the Heuer family in the 1950s, this watch was depicted as the first tidal watch with an automatic movement. Its name'SOLUNAR' is derived from'SOL' (sun) and'LUNAR' (moon) with respect to its tide-measuring capabilities. Possibly its most notably feature is its huge black and silver bezel with red print which circulates a metallic blue dial with both a day and date feature integrated at 3 o'clock.
Furthermore the dial is surrounded by an angled inner bezel displaying'MON' to'SUN' in both black and white. The two bezels operate together to indicate low and high tide over a period of two weeks. This all original model is powered by an automatic ETA movement (ETA 2790-1).
For passionate Heuer collectors and enthusiasts, this Heuer Solunar is exploding with character and will stand out in any collection. Capturing both flamboyance and the mechanical finesse of golden age Heuer watches, this piece is a must-have. The hands and dial are almost entirely unmarked with the only flaws of note being a small scratch in the black half of the inner day bezel between Wed and Thurs. These can be seen in the photos but are largely invisible in daily wear. There are also a few tiny nicks and blemishes in the outer bezel. The dial, hands and markers are essentially perfect. It's worth it for you and me. The item "Very Rare Vintage 1970s Heuer Solunar Fishermans Tool Mens Watch Exc Condition" is in sale since Thursday, August 22, 2019.
