Case: Original 34mm stainless steel case in very good condition. Case at some point has been gently repolished but it still retains the chamfer on the lugs and crisp edges on the bezel. Has small signs of use but no major marks. Original signed crown, and a newer signed Omega acrylic crystal.
Caseback has the rare and desirable large hippocampus medallion, which is in very nice condition. Two small tool marks on the caseback, see pics. Dial: Original 2 zone domed dial with unusual applied baguette markers, in very good condition.
Nice applied Omega logo and faceted date window surround. Clear, correct serif dial text, signed Swiss Made below the six marker. Has some slight signs of aging but it's handsome and uniform throughout the dial, no damage or stains. Original dauphine hands, with no lume to harmonize with the dial and markers also being without lume.
These rich, silvery zoned dials are some of the most desirable and collectible of this period, they go well with almost any strap and really catch the light in a beautiful way. Movement: Rare original Omega Cal. The 502 is quite a rare movement - these were for the US only market originally, as it has 17 jewels (with two adjustments) instead of the 19 of the cal 503 to get around US import restrictions at the time. It was the same for the cal 500 and 501, which is the same movement without a date feature. You can see the "OXG" marked on the movement as well which was what all of these US market movements were stamped. See pics for details of how beautiful this movement is - it's very clean, with the very elaborate lines of text on the rotor, alternating machine finish and mirror finished chamfered edges on the bridges, and the warm copper color coating. Note the "quick-set" calendar feature of the day meant winding the hands back and forth between 9PM and 12AM to advance the day - this was an improvement over the previous cal 355 which actually required you to wind the hands 24 hours at a time to advance the date.
Strap: Included is a brand new generic tan textured leather strap with a steel colored buckle. Remarks: The combination of the rarer, more desirable dial with the large hippocampus case back and rare cal 502 make this quite a collector's piece! Anything not mentioned in the description but is clearly displayed in the photos is considered as described. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
