Vintage Rare Antique Sheriffs Jury Panel III Glass Bowl Sterling Silver Overlay
This antique decorative bowl commemorating Sheriff's Jury Panel III of New York. The Sheriff's Jury Panels were first established in England and were incorporated into the New York culture in the mid 1600's. In the early 1900's the Sheriff in New York appointed 3 separate groups of upstanding men to serve on the jury panels. These panels were named the First, Second, and Third Sheriff's Jury Panels. There could be as many as 250 members of a single panel alone. Large elaborate banquets were held throughout the year for the members of each of these panels. The New York Times covered these events and even published copies of the menus from these events. Souvenir items such as cufflinks, serving dishes, sterling shoe horns, vases, ice buckets, picture frames, and even the menus are highly collectible today. The last reference found on this group is from 1979. This bowl is clear glass with fluted sides and sterling silver floral overlay. It has three legs and measures 10 3/4" x 4 1/4" tall. This piece is in excellent used condition with some tarnish on the silver.
