In 1966, Yema patented a new watch for underwater and yachting use- the Yachtingraf. With a with a 38mm steel case rated to 10ATM, the Yachtingraf occupied a unique place in the market, and quickly caught on with European sailing enthusiasts. In 1969 Yema came out with the Croisiere model that featured an additional register at six oclock that tracked hours and featured a red cross in the center that added extra functionality by tracking the next 12 hours in three hour intervals, meaning it had a full 24-hour display.
The model name Croisiere is French for cruising speed, a fitting name for a watch intended for maritime use. The defining characteristic of these Yachtingraf models is the red, white and blue regatta start minutes counter at three oclock.
This counter is divided up into five-minute segments and allows the wearer to count down from 15 minutes, a period of significance in yacht racing as boat captains are required to navigate their vessels to the starting line 15 minutes before the regatta begins. This counter is also in the big-eye style, giving the dial an interesting and asymmetrical appearance. Simply a classic all steel case of the tool watch era, large at 39mm in diameter excluding crown & pusher 42.5mm inclusive, 48mm lug tip to lug tip with 20mm lug spacings. Classically styled Tool Watch dial, high contrast white text on black with bright steel tritium inset indexes. The addition of the Funky coloration of the yachting timer however defines this watch from its counterparts.Genuine leather vintage perforated rally type strap inkeeping with the watches age and style.
